Behind The Lens
Location
On a walk with my son through Richmond Park in London, UK, we sat down next to a dead tree for a quick snack. There were some birds around that seemed more interested in the tree than in our snacks, which I found odd. Then I looked up and saw a kestrel at the top of the stump. It flew away and another one soon appeared. It must have been a nest. I got a couple of nice shots, this one being the best.Time
It was late morning.Lighting
The whispy clouds in the background made it slightly difficult to get the white balance and exposure right. At one point there was a break in the clouds and I got some nice background dynamics with the mix of blue sky and white clouds.Equipment
Canon Rebel T5i with a 55-250mm f/4 5.6 IS II lens. No tripod, flash or anything else.Inspiration
Kestrels are one of the most beautiful birds for me, so being so close to a couple sitting still enough for long enough to take some pics were inspiration enough. I was really glad to have taken my camera with me on our walk.Editing
I adjusted the clarity and dehaze setting in Photoshop. In my camera bag
My camera with the 55-250mm f/4 5.6 IS II lens, extra batteries, an EF S 18 55mm f/3.5 5.6 IS STM lens, extra SD cards, some lens filters, a rain cover and hand sanitizer.Feedback
Great pics can become average if the background doesn't work. Try different angles if possible, and take lots of pictures.
