This is an old mining water pump raft, left over from a gravel pit that closed in the late 70's. This section of land was left to naturally regenerate and has a variety of trees at various ages. There is two badger sets, a fox den and several rabbit warrens around the lake. A huge variety of birds and other wildlife have settled in too, including two varieties of deer, smooth newts, common lizards etc..
There are sign around the raft that suggest the deer population often use it as a refuge in bad weather at night.
