Location
The photo was taken at our home in Cooroy, Queensland Australia. I’m a self taught photographer and my wife and I plan and do a lot of photoshoots together. This photo was a part of a project I started during COVID called the paintsuit project, where I would take suits that I found and paint on them. It’s hard to see in the photo but there is a bit of white on one side of the suit. I had been wanting to do a photo with my horse Benson for a long time and it came together exactly how I imagined it.Time
It was about mid morning in winter, we have very mild winters in Queensland and the ageratum takes over the grass a bit. I really wanted the colour of the ageratum to be a feature in the photo.Lighting
It’s all natural light in this photo, it was a great day for photos as there was light cloud cover creating the perfect diffusion.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D mark ii and a 24 - 105mm f4 Lens and no other equipment. We got the perfect angle with my wife lying on the ground to get the shot.Inspiration
Basically COVID and the need to be creative inspired taking this photo. I had been wanting to get some photos with my horse in a creative way for a while and the idea came to me one day to use the ageratum and wear black to tie in with the bridle and the dark trees in the background.Editing
Yes, I mainly edited the colours and adjusted the light levels in Lightroom to achieve the look I wanted. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5D and my 24-105mm lens because it’s so versatile. I also always have a 50mm lens in my bag, memory cards, extra batteries and a speed light flash. The bags not too heavy and that way I’m prepared for whatever the day throws at me.Feedback
Always try alternate angles, you never know what you might be missing from just holding your camera at mid height.
