Behind The Lens

Location

Summer 2020 - Matera (Italy). It's part of a portrait session located in the Sassi of Matera

Time

I took this photo in the afternooon

Lighting

It's a very simple image. I took this in natural light

Equipment

I use my olympus OM-D E-M1X with a portrait tele-photo lens, the superb Zuiko Pro 45mm f/1,2 very fast and perfect fot natutal light in open shadow.

Inspiration

I love Lindberg's work and this model was perfect to create a very deep portrait. He loves shoot in natual light, like this.

Editing

the original capture was in color, of course but turning in BW was the best option for me. I can tell that this is a very powerful image in black and white. I use some different levels of BW and masks to mix them. I also add some noise, to finish it.

In my camera bag

This was an outdoor portrait session and we have to leave our cars not so close, so I have to carry everything I need with me. I have two Olympus Bodies EM1 (Em1X and a Mark2), 17mm, 45mm Zuiko PRO and trigger flash Godox V860II . I also a have my super telezoom 40-150PRO 2,8 and obiovsly batterie and memry cards

Feedback

I can tell you to work with passion, every time. every single aspect is important: the righ subject, the right make up, the right place, the right time, and so on. Even if it can seem a simple pic to take, it's not. We were a little team, and the location was not so easy. We have also flash light (I had an assistant too) but we didn't use in this frame: it's important to understand what you need and when.
