Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Colorado, which is a very special place for me. It is a place of beautiful mountains, rivers and pine trees. Every scene is magic and inspirational. Even as a beginner photographer, you can capture great scenes, because the place is so beautiful.

Time

This photo was taken around 4 p.m. I was travelling from one town to the other when I stopped to eat and rest in between. Looked up and had this scene right in front of my eyes!. Grabbed my camera and took this photo. Sometimes the best photos are not planned. There are times in which unexpectedly, an image catches your eye because of its beauty and balance.

Lighting

The curious thing about this part of Colorado is that there is a time of the day in which the sun still lights the high mountains, but no longer the town located at a lower altitude, creating an interesting combination between lights and shades. Where you see the white peak vs the black pine trees in the shade, and all the variation of greys in between.

Equipment

I took this photo with a Nikon Coolpix S225.

Inspiration

I was on a vacation and wanted to bring back home a photo that pictured the essence of Colorado. The sun was lighting the high mountains and the rest of the town was in the shade. The sky was clear. The pine trees seemed to be carved on the mountain. The magnificence of Nature and contrasts caught my eye, grabbed by camera and snapped this beautiful scene!

Editing

As a beginner photographer, I use the Snapseed application to edit. I amplified the contrast between the light (whites) and shades (black). I also increased the saturation of the colors.

In my camera bag

I am new to photography, I always have my samsung cellular phone in my bag. My cell phone is my camera. I hope as my photographic journey continues and I learn and improve, I will acquire more sophisticated equipment. I no longer have the Nikon camera I took this picture with.

Feedback

Because of the lighting Colorado's Mountains can acquire very interesting features throughout the day and seasons. Also the angle from which you take the photo counts, to produce artistic scenes. The key is to be at the right time and place. The same mountain can look so different from winter to fall. You can capture different moods, according to the color of the leaves, the presence or absence of the clouds and snow.
