Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a winter hike to a local mountain, called Snežnik (literally translates into "Snow mountain"), which peaks at 1,796 m above sea level. This year's incredible winter covered the mountain in a 2 m thick blanket of snow, justifying its name.

Time

This was taken in early morning, on a cloudy day, with just a dimmed light coming through.

Lighting

The greyish sky and the pale light of the early morning enhanced the contrast between the bright white snow and the darker tree trunks.

Equipment

I used a hand held Canon 2000D and a 18-55 lens with low ISO (100) and slightly higher exposure as usual.

Inspiration

We walked for hours through this enchanting, fairytale-like landscape, with absolutely nothing to be heard except the wind in the treetops. When we stopped to take a quick break (very quick, since it was 11 degrees Celsius below zero), I noticed this incredible perspective of the trail ahead of us, with the tree trunks covered in ice. It seems so surreal and I was completely mesmerized by the view.

Editing

I just adjusted the highlights and shadows a bit.

In my camera bag

When we go mountaneering, I am pretty restricted, since I cannot afford to carry heavy lenses and tripods for many hours, especially in such conditions. Therefore I usually carry my Canon 2000D with its 18-55 lens (great for landscapes) and additionally one zoom lens in case I encounter any wildlife.

Feedback

We are living in a difficult time, with our movement being so restricted that sometimes feels like we are in prison. However, the most important thing is to observe and see, wherever and whenever you are.
