Behind The Lens

Location

Just in front of my home near the streat.

Time

Early morning, the frost was already melting away by the rising sun so I had to be fast.

Lighting

I used the sunlight of the morning sun with its low angle. This provides a wonderful reflection on the leaves, like they are all each framed in sugar.

Equipment

A Nikon 800E and a Tamron 28-300 mm, handheld.

Inspiration

I already noticed several times that the hedge was lit by the sun each time I walked by. I planned to wait for the perfect light on a particular morning. As it is close by my home it only took low effort to go out for a few minutes to take the shot.

Editing

Only a bit of toning and contrasting to emphasize the white ‘sugar-covered’ edges of the leaves.

In my camera bag

A Nikon D800e and a Nikkor 28-300 mm ( ‘the Beast! ‘). A travel tripod, some filters and the wonderful Arsenal AI device which I control with my iPhone x.

Feedback

Yes, if feasible study your subject on several moments of the day in several weather conditions. You’d be amazed how the natural light and conditions change the character of the subject each time. Then plan your shooting, take your time and use different angles to find your final composition. Good luck!
