Behind The Lens
Location
This is behind an old hay barn I acquired after purchasing a new house in 2020, in Central Illinois. My subject is sitting on a stacked pile of wood from a tree that had to be cut down after a storm.Time
This was taken the 1st of December so we could get Christmas cards made. This was taken mid-afternoon. Though shadowy from other trees, we took many poses and angles to get the correct lighting.Lighting
Take many angles, towards the light, the light back to you, from the side, ect.... Remember to be eye level with your subject if doing portrait.Equipment
Nikon 7200, no flash with my 18-55mm lens, the grass was pretty muddy so I did not set up the tripod but sat on wood for balance.Inspiration
I needed a Christmas card. When the subject put the gloves over his mouth, this was a perfect photo opt to show how we have seen people daily for almost the last year. You can read a lot through someone's eyes. This subject loves winter so was content with letting me snap a couple pictures or 50 or 100!Editing
I had to brighten it up a little. The area was a little darker than I wanted it to be. Easy fix.In my camera bag
Camera, couple different lens, lens cleaner, Kleenex for nose pickers, gum for bad breath, a sucker for afterwards (kids), some type of a rattling toy for babies, cables to hook up to a computer immediately and some thumb drives.Feedback
Set your camera on multi-shoot and go. Work it....work it... Make them smile, talk to them, make them laugh!
