Location
This picture was taken on an old state route road in Illinois. It is loaded with so many colorful trees during the Fall. Many people take wedding pictures or family pictures on this road due to the low amount of cars that travel on it.Time
This was taken just right around noon time. We had to find a tree that did not have the sun glaring in the model's eyes.Lighting
Look for shadows or sun glares on your model(s). Play around with different angles so you can see what image works and looks best. I always have my camera set on multi shoot because if you only take one, you can't make your model go back a few days later because the lighting wasn't right or they blinked or out of focus, specially in Fall. You might not have another sunny day or the leaves could have all fallen.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7200, with aperture f/5.3, ISO 200, shutter 10/1250, focal point 440/10. No tripod or flash. Love natural lights.Inspiration
Fall season always inspires me to take photos around the many beautiful colors the trees give us.Editing
Very little post processing. Gaussian blur to make the focus on the model. Removed some green from the trunk of the tree and brought out a little more yellow in the leaves. In my camera bag
Camera, extra lens, extra battery, lens cleaner, cables for computer connection, extra memory cards, thumb drives, a tripod may not be in my bag, but I always have one in my car.Feedback
Use the multi-picture shoot option, play with light, shadows and poses. Talk to the model(s) and be silly so they laugh and have a natural smile. Find the perfect background, but focus on the subject. Be slightly above the model(s) eye line. Don't cut off a model at the elbows or knees. A great place to shoot a portrait is somewhere shady, like under a tree.
