Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this image in the historic and diverse neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn in New York City.

Time

This photo was shot at 3:08 PM on Saturday, November 7th, 2020, and what a moment to behold.

Lighting

I think the light was perfect as we were heading into the evening. It intensified the popping of the cork and the spray of the champagne. I could not ask for better timing. It was splendid.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D810 with my Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6, no flash, and no tripod.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the historical moment, the Biden Harris defeat of the Trump administration, making Trump a one-term president and ending the Trump era. I had never seen such an explosion of joy. Upon the Biden win announcement, my neighbors and community poured out into the street and erupted into cheers. It was like thousands of people feeling freedom for the first time. The power of the moment had to be recorded in images that reflected this pure exuberance. My inspiration for this image was the people.

Editing

I was able to do a minor crop, light adjustments in Lightroom, and created this black and white from color.

In my camera bag

I never leave home without my Nikon D810 and Nikkor 28-300 mm lens. They have served me well in every genre of photography. I used them for my international and domestic work. When home in New York City I love street photography. I never want to be without them in my wandering of the city. My zoom allows me to get close to my subjects while not being close physically. This is very important these days during a pandemic.

Feedback

My advice to others on capturing images similar, I suggest staying alert and being ready for the changing movement of the people.
