Location
I took this photo in Sossusvlei, Namibia during a spectacular desert morning sunrise.Time
This was taken very early in the morning as the sun was rising from behind the great dunes of the Namib DesertLighting
For me, the best lighting for landscape photos is during sunrise or sunset. To be frank, most types of photography. There was a beautiful golden glow casting upon the desert sands as the sun was rising. I stood in awe of this magical moment.Equipment
I shot this photo with my Nikon D3 and my 28-300mm lens. I used no tripod or flash. The sun and the quick shutter speed was all I needed.Inspiration
I am a big fan when it comes to sunrise so this was my inspiration. There is something clean and crisp about light and shadows early in the morning. I am a bit of a silhouette chaser. When I find them, they must be captured. I was enjoying the incredible moment before me and I had to take a photo to share it.Editing
I did all the basic adjustments when shooting in RAW. I brought up the highlights where necessary. I also lightly deepened the shadows to create the silhouette as I remembered it.In my camera bag
Every day and everywhere I go, I have in my bag a Nikon D810 0r D800 attached to my 28-300mm lens. I rarely leave home without them. Once in a while, I will add my Motofoto tripod.Feedback
My advice to someone wanting to take a photo like this, be prepared to rise before the sun. Make sure you face the sun as it is rising from behind the dunes. Come prepared and don't be afraid to try something new. Most important, feel the moment.
