Location
I captured this photo on the Manhattan Bridge in New York City, NYTime
This photo was taken just before the sunset in New York City in the Summer of 2020.Lighting
The soft lighting was filtered by evening clouds rolling in before a brief shower. The sun was setting. The lights from the bridge illuminated the roadway. I also had to increase my ISO to gain the proper light.Equipment
I shot this image with my Nikon D800 camera with a 28-300mm Nikkor lens, no flash was used.Inspiration
I was inspired by all of the diverse participants marching for the cause of equality and justice. I have had the honor of photographing many of the protest marches in New York City this summer of 2020. I am always amazed by the precise accuracy and coordinated efforts of the cyclist protecting the marchers. They scout ahead and move forward to guard the intersections against the vehicles. The protest riders "Street Riders NYC" is a dynamic part of the many protests in the city. I finally had the opportunity to be at the right place and at the right time to create an image that captured the power and passion of the movement. I had these new protest icons walking their bikes in front of the marchers while having the old iconic truss of the Manhattan Bridge for their backdrop. How ironic is that when all the ingredients come together in a moment to create the image I desired? I felt like I had struck gold.Editing
Very little post-processing beyond switching from color to black and white was necessary, however, I did have to raise the exposure and crop the image for social media. In my camera bag
The equipment in my bag on any given day would be my Nikon D810 or D800 with my Nikkor 28-300mm or 85mmFeedback
My advice is to stay sensitive to the moment and the changing environment. Allow yourself to feel the pulse and heartbeat of humanity.
