Location
We took this photo at Parc Maisonneuve in Montréal. We choose this location for the beautiful background, a lots of trees and a large space to play with!Time
We did the shooting in the afternoon in order to have nice sunlight and also nice sunset light!Lighting
Natural light is beautiful but can also be tricky. Shadows are not always where you want them to be! We tried a portative flash, but it looked too harsh. So, we decided to take all the shooting in natural light.Equipment
I used my Nikon Z6 and my 85 mm and 50 mm and reflectorInspiration
A year ago, I bought a parachute in a second hand army stock’s store. Then with He?le?ne Groulx, who is a costume creator, MUAH , with who I used to collaborate in many concepts, I was thinking about a project inspired by the beautiful work of the artist Kirsty Mitchell (https://www.kirstymitchellphotography.com). Her work is so beautiful and fairy. She creates a world with her imagination. We didn't want to copy her but her work was so inspiring that we wanted to create something on our own, but with her touch! So He?le?ne created this beautiful costume with the parachute and flowers.Editing
Originally, the "cape" was « army green ». As I said earlier, we recycled an army parachute. After looking at the photo, we decided to change the color of the cape to create a better contrast with the background. It was difficult to do the contour with all the details, but at the end it was all worth it!In my camera bag
My creativity and my knowledge!! ??My camera, a battery pack and an extra memory (you never know!) I also carry a portative flash just in case!!Feedback
The fun fact about this shooting is that He?le?ne Groulx assisted me in this shooting. She was behind the model, holding the parachute in the air, then when I was ready to take the photo, she was going quickly under it to inflate it as she was trying to hide herself in the same time! It was very funny! When you take pictures with movement (ex. water, flour, leaves, feathers....), you have to take a lot of pictures, to be sure to have the good take. So don't hesitate to click again and again as much as you can!! Don't be afraid to try something new that takes you out of your comfort zone. Team up with nice creative people.
