To represent the death and life of the Australian bush fires I took some of the most beautiful native and non-native Australian flowers to experiment with smoke and the gradual decay of a flower.
This began the exploration of both the beauty in an ageing flower as well as the need we have in Australia for bush fires. Many flowers can not reseed without the fires. A sun flower does not reseed until it has died.
There is also a beauty in an aging flower I wish to capture. The idea that perfection is unattainable and there is a lot of beauty in aging.

With the smoke and the colours of the plants I wanted to control the light as much as possible. The dark background gave life to the smoke as it hit the light.Equipment
Tripod, Sony A7markIII, Studio lights, Smoke machine, Black fabric.Inspiration
I wanted to explore the devastating recent Australian bush fires. Much like our wild life, Australia also has some incredible native plants. Many of these plants need fire to survive. However as the fires become more and more devastating, the fires ravage for longer and the flames burn higher and hotter. People loose their homes and the lives of both humans and animals are lost. The flowers represent our country and the smoke represents the bush fires. With a mind of its own the smoke moves around my image, untamed. The flower sits frozen unable to escape. There is a beauty and a sadness in nature. ThisEditing
Very little. I like to create my scenes post shoot. Inspired by my stage and performance background I love to stage and position everything before I take the photograph. I usually only do small edits like cropping, colour adjustments and lighting touch ups.In my camera bag

Usually my passion lies with photographing people; documenting shows and events. This was my first time taking still life. I learnt so much through this process of lighting and given the opportunity to study a simple subject from multiple angles. I would recommend exploring your version of this for sure.
