The de Hoop windmill is a tower mill and was built in 1854.
At the beginning of the 20th century the mill was dismantled so that only the mill hull remained because a steam engine had taken over the work. For years, this hull has been used as a warehouse for Aart Uittenbogert, a dealer in second-hand goods, nicknamed Aart de Jood.
Around 1980, the municipality of Culemborg bought the mill hull to have it restored. In 1993 the mill again grind made using parts of the interior of Oranjemolen to Lewedorp. The refuge is equipped with an electric fence system to keep out birds, especially cormorants.
