Behind The Lens

Location

This photo of one of a pair of Masked Lapwings was taken in Sydneys Botanic Gardens.

Time

This was around noon as I was walking between sections of the gardens looking for subjects to photograph.

Lighting

This was taken in full sun.

Equipment

I was actually aiming to do macro on the day using my Lumix G9 but had also taken my 100-400mm Lumix lens just incase i saw anything interesting.

Inspiration

Lapwings have such an interesting face with the side flaps giving them an almost comical appearance.

Editing

As I always shoot in RAW I run all my images through Adobe LR Classic and in this instance I also used TOPAZ Sharpen AI to give more clarity.

In my camera bag

I shoot with The Lumix G9 and a Lumix 12-60mm, Olympus 60mm Macro and the 100-400mm if I am travelling light. If I am not worried about weight I shoot with a Canon 5DmkIV with a 100mm Macro, 24-105mm or a 100-300. When doing specifically macro I will add my Canon MP-E65mm 1-5X Macro lens.

Feedback

Birds can be a difficult subject especially as they are fast movers, for birds such as these who spend a lot of time on the ground getting as low as posssible always gives one a great angle and perspective.
