Wonderful edit.
I'm pleased you joined my challenge "The November 2020 Collection". Great, thanks, and let's hope it turns all right well for you. The competition is, as ever, very hard! That is this month especially the case, because VB approved the challenge for the gallery and extended the duration. Good luck.

You have given 2020 a positive swing that is really (nice) positive, a contribution to the Year 2020 Collection. As always, the competition will be tough, which, as an added consequence, makes the victory taste very sweet. Good luck and probably for the … time: Happy New Year and stay healthy in 2021!

This is King Tides They occur three times every winter. It's when the moon is closest to the earth. Sometimes early in the morning, sometimes evening. This year (2020) peak was around noon.Lighting
This shoot was the ultimate dynamic range test. Being winter the far rock mountain stayed in the shadows almost the whole time. Meanwhile the waves that were slamming other pieces of mountain and sea stacks were shooting bright "white water". Don't even want to think about trying to process a batch of jpgs in a shoot like this. Thank god for RAW!!Equipment
The action was fast and furious and several photogs were there, so a little crowded. This and 99% of the shots I took were hand held. I just bought a new mono pod to try out next winter when the King Tides come back. Their were people there with tripods. Camera was Nikon D810 with a 70-300. Most shots were around 150 on the zoom because there was so much going on at times. Plus it's nice to get some shots with the lighthouse in the image.Inspiration
The King Tides are a 4 day event. And occur three times per winter. Usually one time each in Nov, Dec, and Jan.Editing
The dynamic range in these photos was off the charts for me. Shaded background and bright water was frustrating. In my camera bag
Nikon D810 Nikkor 18-35 and Nikkor 70-300. Bogen monopod and Bogen tripod.Feedback
When these King Tides come in on the Oregon and Washington Coast they can be attached to some crazy wind and rain storms. They occur at high tide once a per day. I would plan for at least being there for two of those days. The average this year was having two good shooting days per set of four King Tides. The day I got this shot the wind was 28mph. But it was at our backs. Very lucky indeed! When we got a touch of rain it didn't get on the camera lens.
