Location
This photo of Mt. Garfield was taken from the East on a roadside in Palisades, CO. I purposefully went over to Palisades because most photographs show Mt. Garfield from the west side.Time
I took this photo (amongst several others of Mt. Garfield) October 20th, 2020 at 10:27am.Lighting
The sun was the lighting in this shot because it was the perfect time of day for the sun to aid in the capture of every nook and crevice.Equipment
I shot this with my Sony ILCE-6000 using a 16-50mm lens on a tripod.Inspiration
I was looking for a good place to shoot Mt. Garfield and the Book Cliffs mountain range from the East because you don’t see many photos from the direction. Mornings seemed to be the best time since the sun would be hitting the mountains from the right angel to give them the best shadings and shadowing.Editing
I used post-shoot processing to increase depth, shadows and highlights and then used a grayscale filter to create the monochrome effect. In my camera bag
I always carry my Sony ILCE-600 with a 16-50mm lens on the body and a 55-210 lens plus a Canon Rebel T6 with a 75-300mm attached to the body and an 18-55mm. I also have a fixed 500mm lens that I have in my pack as well as extra batteries and a remote shutter release and lens cleaners.Feedback
I would advise the use of a tripod or some stabilizing device; if for no other reason than getting the horizon line even. You foreground, middle ground, background, and skyline will balance that way and the results will be eye-catching.
