Location
This was taken on the Auchmacoy estate nr Ellon Aberdeenshire, it is a large farming estate with lots of wooded areas.Time
I was driving around the country roads on the estate looking for suitable areas to take photos and came across this wooded area close to the road so I didn't have to walk far. This was taken at 11:00 AM on a bright sunny Autumn morning at the end of October.Lighting
Although it was a bright sunny morning the sun was low and the light was ideal, I hid the sun behind the trees so I was still able to pick up plenty of detail in the trees and the carpet of leaves on the ground.Equipment
This was shoot on a Canon 7D MKii with a EF-S 10-22 set on a Neewer tripodInspiration
My portfolio was short on Autumnal photographs so I set out in late October to see what I could find, living in Scotland it's mainly pine trees! but I new this area would provide some good locations for my photoshoot. I loved the unusual tree on the right and found the tree on the left framed the scene well and with the carpet of leaves I thought this had the makings of a great shot. I think it turned out well.Editing
I processed this in Lightroom and added a Golden hour preset and did a bit of dodging and shading on the trees and the leaves. In my camera bag
I have a Canon 7D MKii with a Canon 100mm macro, 10 - 22 mm wide angle, 24 - 105mm zoom and a 100 - 400 zoom lens. I also carry a wireless remote and selection of ND filters.Feedback
When I go out on a shoot I have an idea of what I want to achieve but I'm always on the look out for something/anything of interest that might make a good shot. I often come back with photos other than what I had initially intended, don't be blinkered always be on the lookout for a possible photo opportunity, often the best shots are found by accident.
