I stood in the back of a beautiful wooden boat along the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, and noticed the beautiful sheen and reflections on the wooden roof. I liked seeing the young lady standing on the bridge as we approached it.

Location
This photo was taken while riding in the back of a beautiful wooden boat on the way to the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. We had never been to Italy, and the anticipation of seeing the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge in person for the first time was incredible. As we rode further, reflections of the buildings were captured on the boat, and I gleefully began snapping during this journey. It was cool that there was someone standing on the bridge as the captain of our boat sped toward it, and both probably made eye contact at that point.Time
We had a 9:00 a.m. excursion toward the Grand Canal on a Saturday morning. As we approached the Grand Canal, we encountered more boat traffic. It was a busy area!Lighting
The early morning light was a bit glary, and I probably used a polarizer lens filter to cut the glare.Equipment
I used my trusty EOS Canon 70D, with a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS lens, handheld. It was a very bumpy ride.Inspiration
Being in Venice, Italy for the first time inspired me! The sights, architecture, canals, gondolas, and history were profound. The anticipation of seeing the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge in person was incredible. My heart was racing! I love photographing reflections, and the sheen of the boat's hood caught my attention, as did the homes alongside us. I gleefully began snapping during this journey. It was cool that there was someone standing on the bridge as the captain of our boat sped toward it, and both probably made eye contact at that point.Editing
Adobe Lightroom is my favorite post-processing tool. I used it to lighten the original image, and adjusted the saturation, vibrance, and luminance to enhance the colors. In my camera bag
Besides my camera and everyday lens with which I took the image, I brought a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6III kit lens, and a Tokina AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm F2.8 wide-angle lens. Also included were lens wipes, a small notebook and pen, the camera manual, a spare battery and SD card, a battery charger, a plug adapter, and a plastic bag big enough to hold the camera bag and contents in case of a downpour.Feedback
Be prepared with your equipment, find the right settings for your subjects, don't be afraid to resort to automatic rather than missing a once-in-a-lifetime shot, use patience while being ready to capture something you've dreamed about for a long time. Bring your camera manual! Look ahead, behind, and all around you. Enjoy every minute of your surroundings, and remember to stop and 'just be' to take it all in, too!
