The colorful goldfinch is native to the sunny edges of moist deciduous forests. Not long ago, goldfinches have started to adapt to man-made landscapes, such as orchards and parks. The main condition for the presence of goldfinches is a rich vegetation with many composites (thistles, dandelions). These plants produce the seeds on which they depends almost entirely.
