Nasturtium (East Indian Cherry)

The nasturtium ( Tropaeolum majus ) is an annual, climbing , herbaceous plant of the family Tropaeolaceae.
The smooth, gray-green leaves are reminiscent of a coat of arms. This contributed to the naming, because the botanical name Tropaeolum is derived from the Latin word "tropaeum", which referred to a tree hung with weapons as a sign of victory. The plant originates from the Andean region of Peru and Bolivia and was already considered a medicinal plant by the Incas.
Flowers, leaves and seeds are edible and, with their pungent taste, are reminiscent of horseradish . The nasturtium is also considered a spice. The leaves can be salted and the flower buds and green fruits can be marinated.
