Location
This Image, 2020 Tom’s Creek Falls-Rocks and Water, was taken at Tom’s Creek Falls near Marion, NC (approx. 2 hours. from Charlotte, NC) in October 2020.Time
It was approx. 2:00 PM the third week in October; cool, but not cold. A typical nice sunny Fall Day!Lighting
As the bottom of Tom’s Creek Falls is situated in a “V” shaped ravine, this made for some difficult shooting conditions. At the time the shots were taken at approx. 2:00 PM, the sun was shining behind me and to my left, somewhat lower in the sky, and slightly higher than the top of the left ravine. This made the right side of the ravine very bright, but the left side somewhat in the shadows, making for a very “High Contrast” shooting condition; but, as luck would have it, the bottom of the ravine was in the shadows and presented an even, overcast lighting.Equipment
Canon 5DM3 (35mm Full Frame Digital) + Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L + Oben CC-2481L Carbon Fiber Lateral Tripod + Oben BB-2 Ball Head + Canon TC-80N3 Intervalometer Timer Remote Controller.Inspiration
I shot several single Images with my Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L + Canon Extender EF 2X III (270mm total) including the 3-Shot Vertical Panoramic (in my portfolio as well)! But, with this combo, I was getting too much close-up details, and not enough of the broader picture to tell the story that I wanted to tell from the bottom of the ravine. So, I took off my Canon Extender EF 2X III. That got me the broader angle that I was looking for.Editing
I am a FIRM BELIEVER in getting everything you can correctly IN-CAMERA in the FIELD, and doing as little post-processing as possible! Having said that, I do the typical adjustments necessary with RAW Images. In my camera bag

Take the time to explore several different shots with different lenses and focal lengths when you are looking to capture the motion of fast-moving water with longer exposure times. Know the places that you shoot, well; and shoot the places you know well.... often! -David
