This Historical Parade of the Florence Football or Soccer (in italian language "Sfilata del Calcio Storico Fiorentino") is carried out before the game that has been played since the XIII Century. The sport discipline reenacts a game called "harpastum" that is considered the father of the football (soccer), but it is mostly similar to the rugby.
This parade is staged by hundreds of Florence people dressed in antique costumes and represents all the groups of the ancient society (soldiers, politicians, women, musicians, priest, etc.). This is part of the celebration of St. John the Baptist who is the Patron Saint of the City whose day is celebrated on 24th June every year.
