Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in norway, during my semester abroad. On the road between Geiranger Fjord and Trondheim.

Time

I remember driving into a tunnel, the sun was peaking behind a thick layer of clouds. When we left the long and dark passage it was 12:31 AM. The foto was taken 2 minutes later.

Lighting

It had rained just few hours before. The dark and grey clouds were still in the sky and the sunlight was crippled.

Equipment

I used my Canon 60D with a Canon 28-135mm lens.

Inspiration

After driving through this tunnel we stopped the car. It was like entering another dimension. Suddenly the landscape was bursting with the yellow color of autmn.

Editing

The difficulty the was to capture the greyish/dark color of the sky with the white of the glacier in combination with the bursting yellow color of the trees. I had to decide which part would be right exposed. I decided to focuse on the trees and retrieve the details of the sky in the post processing. I had to increase the contrast while lowering the exposure in the upper part of the picturce.

In my camera bag

Usually I take two cameras with me. One is a Canon F-1 and the other is my Canon 60D. Four lenses supplement my equipment. One (50mm) for the analog camera and 3 (35mm;28-135mm;70-300mm) for the digital.

Feedback

Sometimes there is luck, like in this particular moment. The difficulty is often to decide which part of the picture should be exposed in the right matter. For that one should always keep in the possibilties of the used technology in mind. The post processing may give a picture its final color and exposure.
