Location
I took this photo on the grass just this side of the North Platte River in Converse County, Wyoming.Time
It was a nice sunny morning.Lighting
It was a sunny morning, and when I spotted this Northern Flicker on the grass, I got down low and took the shot.Equipment
I used a Canon 6d Mark ii camera, and a Tamron G2 150-600mm lens that gave me the opportunity to shoot a close up without being concerned about it getting scared off.Inspiration
I love the look of a Northern Flicker, which I find interesting in the fact they are one of the few if not only woodpeckers that you will find in grassy areas, not just in the trees.Editing
I did minor post-processing in Adobe Lightroom to bring out more of the color and clarity of the bird.In my camera bag
I always keep my Canon 6d Mark ii and Sony a6000 cameras in my bag, as well as various lenses from Canon, Tamron, and Sony. I also keep a cleaning kit in my bag.Feedback
I would always suggest if someone is interested in getting bird shots is to scout out areas you are familiar with, and observe when you see bird arrive and go, and the type of birds in that area. Most generally I go early morning and later afternoon or evening to make shot of wildlife, birds, and nature.
