Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a windy day while sitting on my front porch in Lancaster, Ohio. He was holding on for dear life, poor thing. So I took a few snaps with my new Canon T6. I am a self taught, amateur photographer who loves nature and doing small things to help preserve our planet.

Time

My husband had bought me a new camera the day before. I wanted to wake up early and try it out with the rising sun. Due to some inconveniences in health, I didn't make it out until around noon or a little after.... and I'm glad I did!

Lighting

The lighting in this was mostly natural... the sun. It was directly above my head but we do have a large tree that also covers a good bit of the area. I believe the tree is what gave it the soft appeal. I did lighten it just a tad to make it a bit clearer.

Equipment

This was shot with my day old Canon Rebel T6 camera (if I'm remembering correctly) with a basic 18mm-55mm lense. No hoods, I believe that effect was caused by the tree in my yard.

Inspiration

Nature is one of the main things that I love to capture. If you don't capture nature as you see it... then that moment in time is forever gone. Never to be seen again. So I love to catch things that are a bit trickier sometimes (small creatures, insects, fish, etc). This was also during the time of Murder Hornets being mentioned... they were on my mind!

Editing

I did lighten & sharpen using Adobe Lightroom Mobile. This is the app I normally use to "clean up" my photographs. Personal preference keeps them looking realistic but vibrant and visible! On occasion, I do like to get a bit "artistic" with cutting and cropping things. But that did not happen here.

In my camera bag

If I'm going for a quick outing, I normally just grab my Canon Rebel T6, the basic 18-55mm lense and hang it around my neck. If I'm going for a trip with the family or anything longer than grabbing a bite, I carry my entire bag of equipment with me. I do have a 500-1000mm with a 2x converter as well. I basically carry everything as well as extra batteries, power packs, 2 tripods and even a bluetooth speaker (just in case).

Feedback

My advice for capturing little creatures like bees: Stay Calm. The calmer you stay, the more likely they are to know that you're trying to help. If you're having troubles capturing something because of too much movement and instability on your end, get in position, breathe in and hold it. This was a great trick for me as a beginner!
