Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in the little town next to me Ocean Gate NJ that sits on the water where the Toms River flows into Bsrnegat Bay.

Time

This was taken just after the sun had breached the horizon, so around 6:40 AM on a clear early September (2020) morning. It was so peaceful as I snapped and the early bird walkers did their morning walks on the the boardwalk there.

Lighting

I’ve taken a ton of sunsets but could never get my lazy bones out the door early enough to experience the golden hour on the morning side. So glad I did.

Equipment

This is as shot with a Nikon D5100 with an 18-300mm f3.5-5.6 Nikkor lens. Handheld.

Inspiration

As mentioned I’ve shot numerous sunsets but never captured sunrise. It was time. And this town has a perfect wide open view looking east over the bay.

Editing

I did very minimal adjustments to the exposure. The many shots taken before and the emerging light allowed me to land on ver good settings.

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon D5100 body and the 18-300 lens tends to be my go to while I have 2 other kit lenses in the bag. Of course all my accessories (mini tripod, flash, extra battery, full tripod hanging from strap on bag, etc. )

Feedback

For sunrise check the forecast, be there at least a half hour before, start shooting to test your settings, keep shooting and adjust settings as needed. Look around you to find interesting angles and/or interesting foreground objects (a boat, a dock, etc. ).
