Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at my mother-in-law's florist shop after her working hours.

Time

It was Sunday at maybe, 6 p.m, and I went with my wife to my mother in law’s florist shop trying to take some pictures of the flowers. After choosing 3 to 4 flowers, I started to create a composition. I remember that the shooting session took long more than 3 hours.

Lighting

I knew the space and the lack of light condition I had, so I took a strong led torch to help me with the light improvement. I could have simply used the flash light from my camera, but I prefered working with a continuous light source. I set my WB to 4000K and took the picture.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon 90D, with an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5 Nano USM lens, on a tripod. For the light source, I used a led torch.

Inspiration

I enjoy macro photography, detailing photos, sharped photos, which enable you to zoom in on the photo and make it feel like you are entering the image, like a microscope. Obviosuly I do not have the necessary equipment to provide this experience, nevertheless I try to get as close as possible to this goal. Fortunately, I got to achieve this amazing photo, with the tools I had available.

Editing

I always do post-processing, because I like to emphasize colors, make them more vivid, so yes I did post-processing in this photo too. I remember that there was no need for major changes, not even closing the background in black because the light conditions achieved that already. I just improved the colors of the flower, main protagonist of the picture.

In my camera bag

I am a beginner so I do not have a lot of things on my backpack, however I have been enriching it. I always have my Canon 90D with EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5 Nano USM mounted with a lens hood. To clean my body camera I have one microfiber cloth, and I have another microfiber cloth for screens and glasses. To help me with some deep dust I have an air duster. I am trying landscape photography so I have too a Hoya ND filter 10 stops, to allow me to take long exposure photos with daylight.

Feedback

I think the most important in photography is trying! Sometimes I try to recreate some personal ideas or even photos I saw on galleries or in photography websites, because I truly believe this is the way to improve my composition and my artistic point of view, trying new things and travel outside of my comfort zone. To try to capture something similar, there is a need to understand not a little more about the basics of photography and of course, it requires a lot of patience, since it could take a while to get the perfect representation of my idealization.
