The castle is a fortified military building from the Giudicale period, it was one of the control strongholds of the border of the Kingdom of Arborea. The conical hill on which it rests, in the shape of a breast, has given the territory the name Marmilla. Built before 1172, during the whole war between the Kingdom of Arborea, to which it belonged, and the Kingdom of Sardinia of the Crown of Aragon, it assumed a strategic role of primary importance. Following the battle of Sanluri in 1409, it definitively became part of the Aragonese domains of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
