Smartphones seem to have taken over our lives , from counting our steps to dictating our daily duties , the only thing they seem to be used for less and less is for their original purpose of making a phone call. ' Smartphone Sightseers', seems to unexpectedly give evidence to this human reliance on Smart Technology for it was only after I checked the image I had taken later that I noticed that virtually everyone included in the foreground of this shot of the steps at Sacre Coeur was using their smartphone , not one seemed to have really stopped and looked at it without viewing it through a phone screen.
Now , as a photographer , my comment could seem ironic , as I noticed this phenomena after also viewing an image taken through a viewfinder , yet the difference is that the time I take to experience a place far outstrips the time I spend behind a screen. The Smartphone Sightseer often moves on as soon as the selfie is taken from what they believe is the most instagrammable spot , a reflection of today's travel practises that makes me feel a little sad.
