The Jay's scientific name, Garrulus glandarius , translates as 'constantly scratching acorn seeker'. The jay only characterizes this in winter, because during the breeding season it is remarkably quiet. Originally quite shy forest bird, but sometimes also found in the urban area. Jays have the function of intruder alarm in the forest; many animals respond to their alarm call and hide. Jays are known for the striking blue-black striped drawing on the wing.
