What a great photo! I've been there, but the lighting was bad. This is as good as it gets.

Location
This photo is of Port Boca Grande Lighthouse which is located on Gasparilla Island.Time
This was an awesome time. I left my house around 4am to reach the location before sunrise which was at about 7am.Lighting
Patience... You have to sit and wait until the lighting is just perfect for what you are trying to capture and what story you are trying to tell. To each person, that may be a little darker or a little lighter depending on their story.Equipment
This was created with a Nikon D90 and a Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens.Inspiration
I had been looking for local lighthouses to capture for either sunrise or sunset. In my search, I found that Gasparilla Island State Park had the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse. I decided to visit the park during the day to scout out the best location to capture the lighthouse with with sunrise in the background. I then returned a couple of weeks later to create the image in this post.Editing
I use primarily Lightroom and sometimes a little Photoshop to post-process my images. I normally only adjust the very basics to bring out the true colors of an image. In my camera bag
This image was captured in 2014. Since then, I now normally carry a Nikon D4S and D90 body, Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 and Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens, multiple filters, flashes, a very sturdy tripod and remote triggers.Feedback
As I stated above, patience is a must. Scout your location during the day and take notes of the spot you want to shot from. In the dark, it isn't so easy to pick. Bring a flashlight so you can find the spot you had picked and then wait for that perfect moment.
