Behind The Lens

Location

I live in the Appalachian foothills on a dirt road . Beautiful plants grow up and down the road the trees overhang over the whole road .Early in the morning ,most of it is very shaded ,in the evening it's downright dark in this valley .I love this plant for its regal look color, b/w it doesn't matter it is gorgeous .Beautiful view on an old country road .

Time

Late evening is my favorite time to walk our road ,the wildlife are busy heading for the creek next to the road .The lighting and shading is just gorgeous low in this valley. The birds singing make music along the way and then you see a beautiful flower or a wonderful plant and I just have to photograph it .

Lighting

I wanted to show the true regal quality of this plant ,it's called Bull Thistle not only that but it's a edible plant .

Equipment

I used my old camera the Samsung galaxy orbit cell phone .

Inspiration

As I was walking down the road that evening I noticed this Bull Thistle lightly illuminated in the evening shade .in my minds eye I could see the beauty a picture would bring and even better in b/w.

Editing

The only processing used was going from a color photo to a b/w ,used Lightroom to darken the background and I cropped the photo .

In my camera bag

Usually I carry my Samsung galaxy orbit cell phone ,and my new Nikon d 5600 which I am just now teaching myself to use ,carried by neckstrap ready for use .Sometimes I carry a tripod with me ,but on longer walks usually leave that at home .

Feedback

My best advise is capture what touches your heart ,your soul or makes you happy they usually make the best photos .I take all mine within walking distance of my house probably not more than 2 miles .It's national forest all around me so lots to see ,but everyday I find something new I missed the day before .
