Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo whilst waiting for a train to go home. This was in between lockdowns. I can't remember the station, what line I was travelling to or from. I just decided not to miss this chance to show how lonely a platform could be when you're the only person there!

Time

To be honest, I don't remember what time of day it was, let alone the day of the week. When you're underground and there's nothing but quiet and no light penetrating anywhere, you almost think that time has stood still.

Lighting

Lighting!!!! Not really anything special, just the usual strip lighting that is used in most London Underground stations. Its meant to simulate, natural sunlight. Far from it, it actually distorted the perception of light. Coming in from a very dark tunnel where the only light you saw was artificial, made you wonder what it is really like in a tunnel.

Equipment

To save me some time, I took out my mobile phone which at the time was an Huawei, and quickly shot it on auto as I could here the train coming through quickly. Nothing but the lighting in the station was used.

Inspiration

In a few words, I knew I would never get such a shot again.

Editing

In a word, nothing! It really didn't need it!

In my camera bag

It really depends on what type of photography you want to do. Typically I'd take my Canon powershot E330 which is my Bridge camera, as it has all thats needed on there. I also take my Olympus, can't remember what model and a couple of different lenses with my Macro tube and LED ring flash with all 3 filter covers. And if I just want to do what I call, "Reccy" shots for any photo shoots for the two people I shoot for, I take a Canon sureshot compact camera.

Feedback

Take your time. The worst thing you can do is rush it! If you don't have to catch a particular train, wait til the platform clear and just as the last carriage has passed you, take your shot. It doesn't matter if you get a couple of people in, I just got lucky as it was in between lockdowns!
