Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Greenland Docks I Surrey Quays in South East London. UK. It's part of the old dockyards when goods and people arrived to work in the old wharehouses to off load goods and load goods before the days of refrigeration lorries.

Time

I couldn't tell you what time it was, as I never plan anything. It was a little bit cold. I didn't even recognise that it was an Egyptian Goose.

Lighting

I didn't really do anything about lighting as it was a beautiful autumn day and using the natural light seemed quite adequate.

Equipment

As this was a spur of the moment shot, which I often so when it comes to wildfowl, it was taken on an Huawei P20 and nothing else.

Inspiration

The thing is, there are times when inspiration doesn't come easy. I also find that with wildlife, it's easier to point and shoot and hope for the best. By the time I've tried to find inspiration using the area, light and how I'd like to present the shot, the moment has passed and the subject no longer how it was when you started.

Editing

No. I didn't do anything. My philosophy is if you have to mess about with your photo after you've taken it, it looses everything and the reason why you captured it in the first place.

In my camera bag

When I have planned to do a shoot, I take my Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. I love this Bridge camera as it has all I need and never having to take lenses, filters etc.... But I always have another Canon D60 ? With one telephoto which goes up to x175 optical zoom and a wide angle lens, a LED ring flash, 2 tripods, one heavy duty and a lightweight and a monopod, depending on what type of shoot I'm doing. And finally I always have my canon and Samsung compact camera. They are very handy for going out to take reccy photos of possible future photo shoots. I also have a separate bag for all my studio equipment, lights different screens and umbrellas with reflectors.

Feedback

For me, all I can say to others is this, take photos of subjects you enjoy, never so something you feel uncomfortable with. If you don't like what you've done, don't worry just delete and try again. Never make Photography a chore because if you can't enjoy it then it will show in the shots you take. I treat Photography as a hobby to enjoy which means I never have to feel under pressure.
