Location
This farm is on the York side of the Susquehanna River.Time
This was taken about 3:00 pm. On a beautiful fall day in late October.Lighting
I needed the light to illuminate the two sides of the barn and the trees on the hill behind it. To do this I had to take this photo the mid-afternoon.Equipment
The camera I used was a Canon R with a 35mm lens plus a polarizer. Because there was plenty of light, I hand held it.Inspiration
This farm is along a road that I almost always try in the fall because a little further along there are trees on both sides and overarching the road that typically look beautiful in the fall. One year while traveling this road I came upon this scene. I had to return a little later to take this photo when the light was right.Editing
I did very little processing on this photo. As usual, I process the raw file with Light Room and Photoshop adding only slight color enhancement. In my camera bag
I have a very simple kit. It includes a Canon R, a 35mm lens, a telephoto zoom, a flash, extra batteries and SD cards. I find the less equipment with which I have to fuss, the more I can focus on the image. I use the 35mm f1.8 lens about 90% of the time, so I do very little lens changing. I prefer prime lenses for image quality and speed, and so I zoom with my feet.Feedback
It' all about the timing and the light. Being at the right place at the right time. I went to this farm twice that day to catch the best light. Now that I'm a little older now, I don't go as many places as I once did. However, going to familiar places, near where I live, has greatly improved my photography. When you become familiar with an area, you get to know the right times and places to photograph.
