This blue 14 sided glass paperweight has a powerful memory for me. This paperweight was given to my grandparents by a jeweler whose family had recently moved into my grandparent's neighborhood. This was during the height of the great depression. My mother and uncle (pictured) befriended the jeweler's son when most others shunned him. You see, they were a Jewish family in a time when that was not popular.

Being children, my mother and uncle did not know or care about this. They made this little boy's first year in the neighborhood easier. His parents were grateful and presented this to my grandparents as a thank you.

My grandmother, my mother and I treasure(d) this item and the story behind it. My hope is to pass this and the story behind it onto one of my daughters as a reminder to always be kind.
