This is the mesmerizing Niagara falls. The sheer power of the falls will amaze you while you are smitten by its beauty. This picture is all about energy and spirit within. It reminds me of Gabrielle Roth - "Ride the energy of your own unique spirit"

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Niagara Falls State Park in Buffalo, NY from the "Cave of the Winds". It is an awesome experience down the mighty falls with the chilling mist on your face as you are amazed and mesmerised by the beauty of the waterfall. I captioned this "Feel the energy"as it takes me to that moment every time I look at this photo and gets me rejuvenated by energy of the falls. I am an hobbyist photographer with a love for travel and I love to frame these moments while trying to learn the art and science of photography.

Time

I remember this vividly as we had to stand in a long queue in the sun to enter the cave of the winds. This was May 19, 2019 and a bright sunny day. It was around 3pm when we could make it to the base of the falls. It was an experience which can't be described in words and is nothing short of a wonder.

Lighting

It was pretty bright and sunny and I was worried about the harsh lighting. However to my surprise, the base of the falls is all misty because of the power of the falls and the strong winds which creates an illusion of a cloud.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D5300 with Nikkor 18-140mm lens

Inspiration

I had read about the natural wonder called Niagara Falls in my geography books at school and had been awestruck by the beauty of the waterfall images. Last year I had a chance to visit Buffalo and this was a top priority. When we went down the cave of the winds, I was at loss of words looking at the mighty falls, the huge gorge and flocks of seagulls around. It was nothing short of a magical experience and worth a memory. As we walked to the wooden platform at the base of the falls with the chilling water on our faces while trying to save ourselves from getting wet in the poncho, I couldn't stop myself from reaching out to the extreme end and capture the energy of the gallons roaring down the cliff.

Editing

The mist gives a sense of noise in the picture. This has very minimal rudimentary processing in Snapseed where I had tried to smoothen the sky and white space. I am trying to learn post-processing but have not used any prominent softwares as such.

In my camera bag

I generally carry my Nikon D5300 which is my first DSLR and had been love at first click. Most of my photos are taken during my travels and hence I prefer the all-rounder Nikkor 18-140mm lens. I also do carry a Nikkor 70-300mm and a Nikkor 35mm prime. Other than that, I do keep my Canon PowerShot SX720 HS because of its awesome zoom while giving me the flexibility of a bridge cam. You can also find my GoPro Hero7 which I use for videos and super wide angles.

Feedback

You need to travel a lot and keep clicking because you can never have enough clicks. That one photo which seems like magic with the right elements in their appropriate places where you want them to be is actually a result of hundreds of clicks. You can visit my instagram page of arts_cliqs to check out my travel photos. Hope they will inspire the traveller in you as you need to be there to capture the moment. Happy clicking.
