The Eem is the only Dutch river with its own source and estuary within our national borders.
During the more than 18 km long route, the river flows through many cities, and flows into Eem lake near Eemnes.
De Eem has no clearly identifiable source. From an extensive hinterland, including the Veluwe, the river is fed by numerous ditches and streams. The river also receives water from the Valley Canal, which is connected to many other streams. Even the water from nearby polders ends up in the river through pumping stations.
