Location
This photograph was taken at Henry County Memorial Park in New Castle, Indiana. This is the lagoon side of Shively Lake in the park. The park recently turned 100 years old and is said to be the largest living war memorial park in the state of Indiana. Memorials to veterans are scattered throughout the park.Time
This photo was taken around mid-day. The view across the lake is the playground. I love how the light filters through the trees giving just the right look. I love the shade the trees give and the different areas of light and darkness. It makes for a calm and relaxing photo while showing the beauty of the park.Lighting
I wanted this scene to look lush and green and warm, but not so much like a very hot summer day.Equipment
I used a Nikon D-40X to make this photograph. No flash, no tripod. I like carrying only my camera and not being bogged down with equipment.Inspiration
I love this historic park, so much that I helped form a group of citizens and we placed the park on the National Register of Historic Places. It's about 84 acres of beautiful wooded land with a strategically placed playground, shelter houses, cabins, and an amphitheater. In the early 19th century, this land was part of a Native American Indian village named White Raven. With nature shrinking daily, this park is a reminder of how beautiful the mostly untouched land can be and what a great gift it is.Editing
I did do some post-processing on this photo. I did a small amount of vignetting, a little dodge and burn, and a bit of saturation. The other stuff...I'm not saying....ha.In my camera bag
I normally only carry my camera and two lenses. A short and long lens. I don't like to carry anything cumbersome that would prevent me from enjoying the trip....which is the most important thing.Feedback
Almost every city has a park and all parks are beautiful. Look for interesting angles and views. Also, be aware of light and shadows. They can make or break a nice photograph!
