Behind The Lens

Location

In the comfort of my own home. I used items one would commonly find in their house. This photo for instance, I used... - Miniature train figure - Aluminum foil - Pea Sprouts (Neighbor grows them) - Cardboard box - Pillow case - Floor lamp - Cotton balls - Skewer sticks Behind the scenes photos are available.

Time

Mid day indoors.

Lighting

I used a floor lamp behind a pillow case to give the illusion of the sun setting in the sky. The clouds in front are made of cotton balls on skewer sticks.

Equipment

Sony A7Rii Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 Gitzo Traveller tripod Household items

Inspiration

A challenge called #ourgreatindoors. I grew a little passion for it and kept on creating. I've grown a decent following from it and been featured many times by major companies.

Editing

I changed the shadows, darkened the lighting a little, warmed up the white balance, and saturated the colors a tiny bit.

In my camera bag

2 Sony cameras 16-35mm 50mm 70-200mm Peak Design Tripod Gitzo Tripod

Feedback

Depth of field is key to create a realistic miniature photo. You always want something closer to the camera and a bit further away while focusing on the miniature figure. Wide aperture preferred. This blurs up the fine lines and makes it harder to tell the difference between what is real and what is the household item. Like in this photo, the pea sprouts look more like mossy trees when a bit out of focus. Also, always use a tripod. Makes focusing ten times easier!
