Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my home studio. "Studio" is even too big word. I'm self taught photographer, I cook a lot, whenever I have some time I'm trying to spend it in the kitchen an cook something new. Then, when I'm like: "Oh, yes it looks nice, it'll look really fine at photo" I take my camera and take some photos. And it's funny thing, because most of my photos I take in my bedroom, not in the kitchen, because I feel like there is better light. This one was taken in my bedroom, too.

Time

Now, I can't remember the date, but it was a cold day, and I thought, I would like to eat a bowl of warm, homemade pasta. And so I did it. But before, I took this photo, it was late afernoon, but it was still quite light outside the window.

Lighting

I like dark, moody type of photos. I don''t need a sunny day to make photo I like. Normal daylight is enough, even in cloudy days. What I'm trying to say is, that I need only some natural light, and my camera flash.

Equipment

Not much. Only camera, flash and tripod.

Inspiration

What inspired me? I don't really know. I don't want to say, that I'm so creative, that I don't need inspiration (everybody does) But, that day I just looked at my pasta and thought it would like fine in motion. Okay, now I know. The shape of tagliatelle pasta inspired me.

Editing

I changed the light balance, added some shadows, black, and in some places light. I wanted to increase the contrast, so I did it, a bit on the style of Baroque paintings, where light and shadow play the main role.

In my camera bag

First I don't even have a bag! I take photos at home or in my yard. I'm not landscape photographer, but I admire their work (t is insane what they can create). But I'm just a boring food and still life photographer. And I'm still learning. I have my first camera. I bought it about a year ago. Canon EOS 77D + Sigma 17-50 mm f/2.8 + tripod are my only equipment.

Feedback

First you need to cook something, or get to know with someone who enjoys cooking. Then think a while what do you want to achieve. Find a place with light you like and click. Sometimes one click is enough, and sometimes thousands of pictures are bad. So think about the whole composition before you take the camera in your hands. And if you wanna eat something the same day you better hurry!
