Behind The Lens

Location

Lion Sands Reserve, Sabi Sands, South Africa

Time

Around 4PM, give or take a bit.

Lighting

The leopard was sitting in a tree, so while the lighting was mostly bright, he was in the shade.

Equipment

This was taken in the early days of digital with a Canon 20D and a Canon 400 DO with 1.4x. This was hand held

Inspiration

You do not need much inspiration to take this photo ! The leopard was sitting 10-12 feet (3-4 meters) above my head looking straight down. The excitement mixed with just a little fear was overwhelming. I took as many shots as I could of this magnificent leopard.

Editing

Very mininal post processing as this was shot in raw and its full frame, not even any cropping.

In my camera bag

I currently carry a Canon R5, Canon 7D II and a Canon 1DX along with Canon 400 DO with 1.4x, Canon 100-400L II, Canon 70-200 L III 2.8 along with other supportive Canon lenses,

Feedback

While sitting under a leopard is a unique experience that most will never have, there is no substitute for big cat viewing than in Africa. This is a once in a lifetime experience that no one should miss.
