Location
This picture was taken in an ancient Caledonian forest within the Cairngorms National Park. A wonderful place teaming with wildlife and history!Time
It was early morning and the sun hadn’t long risen beyond the tree line.Lighting
I was walking through the forest and noticed the magical light and shades the trees were throwing on the ground and their surroundings, so I adjusted the camera settings so that they would capture this effect as close as possible to what my eye was seeing.Equipment
This was a handheld shot with my Nikon D7500 and 18-300mm lens.Inspiration
I’ve always loved forests and the sort of magical feeling they have and weather can have a big factor on this as well. It just so happened that I was in the right place at the right time!Editing
It was a relatively simply post process with this one, just a couple of lighting edits to really enhance the image and give it that light, magical feel.In my camera bag
On a day like this where I’m just exploring new territories I usually just take my camera body and a single 18-300mm lens. This works as a really good all rounder for most shots. If I’m going out purposely to shoot I also bring a 35mm wide angle lens, a 200-500mm telephoto lens, tripod, spare batteries, ND filters, etc.Feedback
Just go out and experiment! By doing this you’ll learn what works for you and you’ll be able to really hone those skills in.
