Behind The Lens
Location
We set up a foodie shoot at a friend's house in Westville, South Africa - part of On the Rocks Camera Club. Somebody decided to do an off-side shoot and placed the cups and straws on the floor to construct this naughts and crosses theme.Time
Was taken in-doors in the afternoon - think around 16:00, judging by the direction of the light. In hindsight the centre cup is bordering on the verge of being over-exposed.Lighting
There was natural light coming from the door to light the scene from the West-side.Equipment
I shot this with a nifty fifty - tri-pod suspended above the scene. Used a Canon 7D Mark ii.Inspiration
Was looking for something different to the normal cake and cookies food photography.Editing
Not much in the form of post-processing. Basically, auto-adjusted the levels and that was it.In my camera bag
I travel light. Canon 7D Mii and a Canon GX7 for mobility. 2 X off-camera flashes. My favourite lens is the 2.8 70-200, but usually have a 50mm and 100mm macro close-by.Feedback
My advice is to look for a scene outside of the ordinary. There are millions of photos on the internet and the challenge is to let somebody stop to take a second look when he/she scrolls past your photo. Be bold, be different.
