Had the time to visit our park here in my hometown as curfew hours would set in. Taken just after sunset. Would indeed like it to use my nd filter but this shanty as mentioned is on float. Keep safe everyone!

Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my hometown, Cavite City, Philippines. We are mostly surrounded with water; three bays the reason my account would mostly contain seascape images also.

Time

Had with me my Ricoh GR II which is a compact aps c camera to take a chance of snapping a street photo scene. However, this view caught my attention, as it was in the golden hour period, might as well take the shot. When I reviewed my capture, I knew this was indeed a take home prize for me. There are times, your intention would pave away for another unexpected subject. It is here where we are put into test how seasoned our eyes to catch and anchor a composition. To join viewbug, the passion to create will feed us with tons of ideas how other artists see their world thru their images. This opportunity helps us train our creativeness to materialize. his was taken as the sun sets down on the horizon at my left side.

Lighting

The ambient sunlight, being in the golden hour, would indeed provide ideal lighting to my subject. I tend to be attracted on complimentary tones, which I knew this scene would fill my visual appetite.

Equipment

Ricoh GR II, hand held at 1/100 sec, f2.8 and iso400. Was quite after the ambient decreasing light it gave, hence using the widest aperture. Despite having it opened and at the most would try an iso100 to get better details out of the image, needed to have it at iso400 though.with the the right exposure. The least shutter speed I would use to have a decent if not sharp image handheld, is 1/100 sec. Below this, I would not try anymore, unless having a lens with an image stabilizer. Ricoh GR II does not have image stabilizer.

Inspiration

I love colors! Having eye catching colors, complimentary ones catch my interest! Cinematic colors would be next. I believe what draws the human eye would be light, saturation, contrast and faces. This was realized when I listened to Sean Tucker whom I found out and recognize innately that I have this sense to be stimulated by these elements on how I see my world. Yellow and blue as you see in this photo, caught my attention having other plans of my initial intention at the time.

Editing

Yes, but not too much. Shadows, contrast, highlights, vibrance, slight sharpening and dehaze are the common elements I consider adjusting if needed. Currently, I love to advance in fine art photography where I get inspired how Gary Gough takes his photos. There are times, I replace skies, isolate my main subject by using the tilt lens feature of PS CC. I tend to stack images to get sharper details from all grounds. I use Lightroom as well.

In my camera bag

I would always have my nd10 Lee Bigstopper filter set. Also my Nisi nd8 filter. I would bring my Nikon D800, with my 24-85mm 3.5-4.5 vr g and my Tamron 70-200 vc usd 2.8 if a planned landscape in sight. If the location seemed to require much physical effort, I would take my Fujifilm, lighter to carry, X-T1 or my X-E2 with my XF10-24mm f/4 if not my XF18-55 mm. For travel, I take my Fujfilm X-E1 or my X-E2 with my XF27mm and my XF35mm f/2.

Feedback

Always bring your camera with you. What you have is enough to take decent take home photos like this. This was taken with a compact all around aps c Ricoh GR II nothing much to bring along, but can do a lot. Train your eyes to watch over good light, saturation, contrasts and faces. Its not always the rule of thirds, but to look into where to place your subject to convey your message instead of snapping with no intention. Hope my share would help others in this continuous passion art of photography! Learn to appreciate works of others and establish your own form of style. As Bryan Peterson would say: "Keep on Shooting"!
