Behind The Lens

Location

USA. This one is from my budget holiday trip with friends in San Francisco, USA.

Time

It was late evening and the next morning we were about to move to another location so we decided to visit the famous place and see if we can make couple of night shots before we leave San Francisco.

Lighting

Nothing special here to be honest. I had no tripod with me in US so my backpack used to take that role when needed and 3sec timer to avoid camera shaking while exposing long shots. There are pieces of equipment that are vital to get specific results and telephoto lens in this particular case can't be replaced with wide angle lenses to get the same results to bring the background closer to the viewer but tons of things can be replaced with things surrounding us and every photographer should be creative and see the opportunities to sort out things on the way.

Equipment

I use variety of different equipment depends on availability here and now. To be honest, this days it doesn't really matter what kind of equipment or which brands do you use. It is all about simple understanding of what exactly results you want to achieve. It will be always about lenses to get the right depth of field and shutter speed but so many things can be done in post processing so it is just stupid to think about equipment too much. It is all about the final result you want to achieve and simple understanding of at least minimum setup to get job done.

Inspiration

This one isn't the shot I'm especially proud of but mixing different eras in one shot is always cool. We just wanted to visit the famous San Francisco spot and taking couple of shots is a thing of duty for anyone who into photography. So having camera always with me there is no questions I make photos at every single beautiful spot I'm lucky to visit.

Editing

Not much on this one. Pretty standard process of noise reduction and tiny contrast adjustment if I do remember it correctly.

In my camera bag

As I said already it is not really important these days. Most of the mid range cameras are able to perform some incredible results and the most important thing is to have at least one in my backpack. I still prefer to have a DSLR ones but often looking to move over to mirrorless one. A couple of lenses covering wide angles and up to 200mm telephoto one is a standard setup for most of the colleagues. Couple of filters and a tiny tripod are also in my backpack.

Feedback

Well. It is all about telephoto lens to compress the distance between foreground and background bringing the background closer toward viewer. This is the only trick in such photographs. Other than telephoto lens it is always nice to have a good sturdy tripod and couple of ND filters but those are not that important in this case.
