Traveling around the world might sound like a very exciting thing. People may think, that it is always about having fun and enjoying yourself. Unfortunately, there is much more behind all this and there are so many moments, that make you feel so bad, so sad and angry. And I am not even talking about bad weather conditions, or some mechanical or paperwork issues, while you are on the road.
There is a huge amount of cotton fields in Turkmenistan. We were quite lucky to catch the season and all those fields were full of people picking the cotton up. We noticed, that people work in traditional costumes and stoped by to, take couple of pictures, as those are bright and colorful and always look great.
But as soon as we stopped, we noticed that there are lots of small kids working as well. I am not sure, if they forced to do that job or maybe they just help their parents, but it is really-really sad to see little kids working on the fields under the melting hot sun.
They were happy to see us and bikes, they smiled, seemed to be happy, but it really hurts, though!

Behind The Lens

Location

The shot is one of those you are lucky to get unexpectedly. This one is from Turkmenistan being on around the globe motorcycle adventure. Following the main road there are cotton fields here and there. Having noticed people are working in traditional costumes decided to make a quick stop and make couple of shots as national costumes are always looks beautiful and eye-catching. As soon as got my camera out I have noticed that there are small kids are working too helping adults collecting cotton and move full sacks away from the field.

Time

As we can see from the light direction it was afternoon time. It was fall, mid September, if I remember correctly, so the sun was going away early.

Lighting

Having an unexpected chance to capture something interesting in the lens of your camera there is definitely not much you can do with the natural lighting in most cases so make sure you have at least perfect exposition/iso set up for the best result to have at least a good chance to work with your shots later on.

Equipment

Canon 7D

Inspiration

It was all about being in the right place at the right time.

Editing

There is a bit of post-processing. Some saturation I believe, and a bit of sharpening as the girl was moving all the time. Possibly I tried to get more details from the harsh shadows too.

In my camera bag

I don't mind too much about my gear. I believe gear topic is super overrated as me myself worked with all level cameras and it was never about camera but me and willing to get best possible results! Mostly I have my camera with me and couple of lenses such as wide and tele. Tripod and ND filters when planning long expo shots. That's everything you need in like most situations.

Feedback

Well. I think, not many people get in situations when they ride motorcycle in Turkmenistan, but the best advice for those just starting photography, learn the camera well so you can easily switch between cameras and you can react quickly and check if your camera well setup when the moment comes. Or just use AUTO or Priority modes to make sure you get the special moments is time and not miss those. These days we can do magic on post even though it is a bit different story.
