I captured this shot during my last trip to the Dolomites, the Passo Rolle area.
I love the shapes of this mountain range (Pale Di San Martino), it was a long time that I had promised myself to take them at sunset during the winter period, but I had never succeeded.
I was hoping for a slighty cloudy sky, at the beginning I was disappointed not to find them, but when the magical moment started I saw that fable view.
The colors changed every 15 seconds, the moments in which I decided to change the frame were very difficult !
I couldn't miss a single shot !
The preparation was fundamental, almost two hours of tests of focal length, positions, inclinations and crops.
These mountains have amazed me, once again. ❤

-about the place-
The Pale di San Martino mountain group belongs to the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Nature Park and is the most southern mountain range of the Dolomites. It is situated between Biois, Cordevole and Cismon. The Pale di San Martino group is characterised by rugged peaks which have inspired several artists in the course of time. This mountain chain is one of the highlights of the Dolomites and is traversed by the Dolomite high path n° 2 from North to South. Moreover, in the Pale di San Martino Group there is the popular fixed rope route “Via Ferrata Bolver-Lugli”.
The Pale di San Martino are evidence of the tropic sea and coral reefs, which could be found in this area about 260 million years ago. Depending on the light, the imposing pinnacles of the Pale di San Martino appear in diverse colours, from rose in the morning to tangerine at sunset. The main localities at the foot of the Pale di San Martino are San Martino di Castrozza, Fiera di Primiero and Agordo.
Highest peak: Cima di Vezzana (3,192 m)
First ascent of Cima di Vezzana: June 23, 1878, Douglas William Freshfield and Charles C. Tucker
Further mountains: Cimon della Pala (3,184 m), Cima Burleoni (3,132 m), Pala di San Martino (2,987 m), Cima Fradusta (2,939 m), Cima Wilma (2,782 m), Monte Mulaz (2,906 m), Monte Agnér (2,871 m)
Location: Provinces of Trentino and Belluno.
